'Caraline' | History 'Caraline' Centre for therapy and education was set up in 1994 to help people living with eating disorders. ‘Caraline’ Telephone Helpline. Helpline: 01582 457474 Open Monday Friday 10am 3pm The telephone Helpline is available for anyone affected in anyway by an eating disorder. For instance- If you know or feel you are living with an eating disorder you may need support or encouragement or just a listening ear or, you may be close to somebody who is experiencing problems- a parent or sibling or a friend and may just need some support or want to have a chat about how you are feeling or get some information. You may feel someone you know has an eating disorder and not getting any support or not even acknowledging that there is a problem and feel you want some support and advice. The Helpline is also there for anyone, professionals or interested groups or individuals that would like some information. The ‘Caraline’ self-support group meets at: Luton the last Monday of the month at 7pm Milton Keynes the first Monday of the months at 7pm Perhaps it may be a good idea to tell you what we are not. We are not here to judge, criticise, label, or to give advice Our group is confidential within the agency and there is no pressure on anyone to talk if they do not want to. Many people in the group are all at different levels of an eating disorder, it may be beneficial to hear others experiences and see if you can gain some support by being able to relate to them. We do say due to confidentiality we do not allow carers (friends, family partners etc) into this particular group however, you are more than welcome to bring somebody along at the first meeting, for moral support as we do appreciate how daunting it can be attending a group like this. Our group facilitators are there to make sure the group is run ethically and the boundaries are held. The facilitators are not there to offer counselling. As this is a user group, there will be very little input from our group facilitators. If it is your fist time to the group you will be issued with a handout of ‘Group Ground rules’ that was put together by the group at that time. We aim to provide you with a safe and supported setting for you to be able to speak about your fears and difficulties around an eating disorder. We do rely heavily on donations, which are greatly appreciated, so there may be a donation box in the room. Our address can be found on our location page. We look forward to meeting with you soon. Please do not hesitate in calling the above number if you have any questions or would like further support. Read what the Clients Say... Read Clients Poetry... It would be appreciated if people call to confirm that they will be attending the group to guarantee that enough support is made available during the group. |

The group is aimed at helping clients look at the practical side of their eating behaviours. Each client prior to the group will be asked to attend two assessment sessions where they will be assessed for their suitability for a group of this kind and also looking at their individual eating needs. An eating plan is then issued to the client tailored to their individual need. Within the eating behaviour group clients learn practical ways to work with their problems. The group focus is not just about food; it also concentrates on negative thinking traps, belief systems and many more issues that hinder the clients recovery process. At the end of the ten weeks, a client will have learned skills to help them tackle their eating difficulties, reduce anxiety and lift depression.
