To be a help-line volunteer you will need to be able to give empathic responses to callers, remain calm and treat each caller with the utmost respect.
Each call you receive is to be dealt with in confidence and taken to your supervisor at your monthly supervision group. All information received or discussed by callers will remain within the confines if the agency. At no time must you share caller information with a third party unless they work for the agency. Full training is given for this role, throughout the training you will be continuously assessed for your suitability for the role. Only when training is completed and the trainers agree that you are safe to work on the help-line, will you be allowed to receive calls. Can you spare 2 hours per week? Then think about becoming a Help-line Volunteer for Caraline We are seeking dedicated people to help manage our busy day-time telephone help-line. Whilst a certificate in counselling would be an advantage, it is not essential as full training and supervision will be provided. If you feel you can meet the following criteria then we would like to hear from you. We need people who are: Empathetic Good Listeners • Experienced with telephone working (but not necessarily on a help-line) Able to communicate effectively Calm under pressure Respectful to callers and sensitive to their problems For further information and an application pack, contact: Joy or Claire on 01582 457474 NB Please leave a message if you get the answer machine. (Thats why we so desperately need you to answer calls). |
About our Newsletter Additional Volunteers Needed
EDIT is the newsletter of Caraline, the charity which helps people living with eating disorders. The aim is to keep clients, and those who support them, in touch with counsellors and each other. EDIT will be issued quarterly to paid-up members of the Friends of Caraline membership scheme. EDIT will also be offered to relevant Health Care professionals working with people suffering from eating disorders and local GPs. Currently, the Newsletter production team consists of existing staff and Trustees but we need help - only so much can be done with our limited resources. We need volunteers to: be the assistant editor. [Ideally with some experience of desk-top publishing but not essential]; be a reporter. [Ideally with face-to face and telephone interviewing skills, be self-motivated and prepared to get involved with issues surrounding Eating Disorders]; take on responsibility for advertising. [Ideally with some marketing skills, but at least keen to sell advertising space in EDIT]; help generally with the production of EDIT. [This would involve selecting article for inclusion in EDIT and items for the Postbag section] So if you feel you can contribute to any (or even all) of the above areas, please call Claire on: 1582 457474 or e-mail her at: caralineed@aol com |
